COVID-19 Shutdown

It is with regret that the SCC Board has decided that curling will not re-open for the 2020-21 Season.

Your Board has met and extensively discussed the various options for resuming curling and their impact on our finances. Our estimate is that the Club will lose about $15,000 if we stay closed and $22,000 if we were to reopen in February because we would have to pay for rental/utilities and our ice technician.

Re-opening would also be dependant on Alberta Health lifting restrictions on recreation centres.  COVID-19 has become more transmissible, meaning that you can catch the disease with fewer particles and less exposure.  Therefore, the risks of being together are greater than previously.

We have had many discussions with the County staff that are managing our ice slab removal and replacement.  The contractor will begin in March so that hopefully everything will be completed before September.

Our Refund Policy will come into effect. You do not have to apply. We will retain a small administration fee (if you are in multiple leagues only 1 fee will be deducted) and calculate the percentage of games played and mail you a cheque.

If you choose, you can donate your refund to the Club and receive a charitable donation tax receipt.  Information on how to do this will be included with your refund.  We hope many of you will take advantage of this.

Details of the refund policy are on our website.
